In collaboration with Game Tech Academy and Sweden Game Arena SGC 2024 featured an exciting keynote by Julian Togelius, a renowned researcher and thought leader in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) in games. Togelius, who is a professor at New York University and guest professor at the University of Skövde, specializes in the intersection of AI and game design, exploring how these technologies can be used to enhance gameplay, create new forms of entertainment, and push the boundaries of what games can do.

In his keynote, Togelius delved into the future of AI-driven game development, highlighting recent advancements and discussed the implications of AI for both developers and players. His work emphasizes how AI can not only generate levels, characters, and narratives in games but also assist in testing, balancing, and improving the overall game experience. Togelius addressed key challenges and opportunities in integrating AI into game development processes, offering insights that could shape the future of game tech.

“It was super interesting to listen to Dr. Togelius, with his deep knowledge of both AI and the application of it in game testing. From a Game Tech Academy perspective, the combination of research and application was very valuable. I hope that the presentation inspired both game developers and students to take an interest in applied research, says Marcus Toftedahl, project manager at Science Park Skövde.
