What potentials does Virtual Reality (VR) hold when it comes to treating symptoms of psychiatric illnesses? How can VR-environments help us to better understand the mental illness someone close to us or we ourselves life with? There were two of the main questions discussed at the event “VR i Psykiatrien” held in Aarhus on October 3rd 2024.
Game Tech Academy’s own Luisa (Business Aalborg) and Jesper (AAU Student Entrepreneurship) joined the event to – quite literally – get a good look at how game technologies (mainly VR) are being used psychiatric health care and training of health care professionals.
Health care and the innovative and close-to-reality education of those that work in close contact with both patients and their families are sectors which GTA is very interested in working with. Especially after hearing about and trying out the many immersive solutions presented at the event, we are sure that game technologies like VR, sound design, and photorealistic graphics rendering have a role to play on tomorrows psychiatric ward and beyond.
We are thrilled to already have continued our dialog with two of the young, forward-thinking companies that presented their work at the event. We are looking forward sharing more details about our collaborations soon.
Thanks to Filmbyen Aarhus, Erhvervsfyrtårn Life Science, Danish Life Science Cluster, Vision Denmark, and AATE VR for organizing such an inspiring, and in parts emotional event.
Only a few weeks later, Game Tech Academy took to Copenhagen to attend this year’s Digital Tech Summit (DTS), hosted by Ingenøren and the Danish Universities.
The event presented a great opportunity to meet tech start-ups from all Danish and some international companies as well as to talk to representatives of companies that are well-established in the Danish and Nordic tech-scene. “The summit was a great event for our project as there were plenty of opportunities to proactively share GTA’s mission with members of our main target groups, receive immediate feedback, and make some promising connections that will hopefully kick-start collaborations”, says project coordinator Luisa, who attended the event in the name of the GTA consortium.
Alongside many insightful presentations about emerging trends in the tech world – with a heavy focus on the role(s) of artificial intelligence (AI) in it all – DTS 2024 offered interested participants insights into matters of diversity and inclusion in the tech sector. Gender equality, the inclusion of people with special needs – e.g., by using technologies which originated in the game development sector – and diversity in general are some of the sustainability dimension GTA has decided to actively contribute to. It was therefore great to learn more about the topic and meet organizations working on it.
